Ginger Peach Baked Oatmeal SRC

Ginger Peach Baked Oatmeal SRC

I eat oatmeal at least 4 times a week.  It fills me up, gives me the energy to start my day and its delicious.  I often put dry fruit in it as it cooks and bubbles away on the stove top.  The dried fruit sweetens the oatmeal naturally so that all I need is a drizzle of real maple syrup on top and my breakfast is complete.

As I browsed through, A Taste of Madness, my July assignment for the Secret Recipe Club, I immediately became smitten with Cathleens recipe for Ginger Nectarine Baked Oatmeal.  As stated above, oatmeal is truly my go to meal for breakfast, so the idea of baking up a whole pan of oatmeal packed with yummy flavors of ginger and fruit definitely appealed to me.  I was not disappointed.  The recipe was simple, quick and super yummy.  I made a few small changes to the recipe - I used peaches instead of nectarines, maple syrup in place of brown sugar and lastly half almond milk and half 2% milk instead of all milk.  I will definitely be making this recipe again and I highly recommend it too all my oatmeal eating and loving readers to do the same.

Another recommendation I am encouraging you all to do is to take some time to browse through all the recipes on A Taste of Madness.  Cathleen has a fantastic collection of recipes!  I adore the fact that there is a large number of recipes for ice cream and for donuts too.  I have gathered ingredients together to make Blueberry Pudding Ice Cream along with the Salt and Vinegar Roasted Chickpeas.  Both recipes make my mouth water!

I thank you, Dear Cathleen,  for such a wonderful baked oatmeal recipe.  My family and I enjoyed every bite!

Ginger Peach Baked Oatmeal
(recipe slightly altered from A Taste of Madness)

Ingredients:
3 cups rolled oats
2/3 cup real maple syrup (or brown sugar)
1/2 cup whole wheat flour (1/3 cup if you use brown sugar)
1 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 cup almond milk
1 cup milk (any combination of milk is fine as long as you have 2 cups of "milk" in all)
1/4 cup canola oil
1 tsp vanilla
2 ripe peaches (or nectarines), diced

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease a 9x13 pan and set aside.

In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients and then add in wet ingredients.  Stir to combine well.  Gently mix in diced peaches.  Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until middle is set.  Cool slightly, serve and enjoy!

This is the perfect remedy for sore throats or coughs, since lemon provides vitamin C, which is required for the synthesis of collagen, an important structural component of blood vessels, tendons, ligaments, and bone. ginger lemon tea ingredients
Begin by cutting the ginger root into thin slices (no need to peel), mix all the ingredients together in a pan with the water and begin to boil, cover the pan for 20 minutes and remove from heat.

Ginger Snaps

Ginger Snaps

Production Year: 2000
Release Date: 07/22/2014
Studio: Scream Factory
Director: John Fawcett

Over the last few decades the horror genre has been flush with vampires, zombies, and crazed killers. But what of the Werewolf?  When will this cursed beast finally get its due?   Over the last twenty or so years I could probably count the number of good werewolf flicks on one hand, and thats a really pity as creature has such strong mythos.  Ginger Snaps takes this legend and uses it as an allegory for puberty.  Think about werewolves for a moment; Mood swings, weird cravings, hair in strange places.  If youre not having flashbacks of middle school seek help.  The film takes an age old monster and adds a very original twist breathing a bit of new life into the werewolf subgenre.

Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) and Brigitte (Emily Perkins) are two very strange highschoolers. When not making "suicide pacts" theyre taking deranged death scene photos and generally scaring the school faculty. Unfortunately for the sisters they are about to cross paths with "the beast of Bailey Downs," a rumored monster dog that has a distinct taste for neighborhood pets.  On the same night Ginger experiences her first period shes attacked by a lycanthrope. While she survives, shes now faced with two horrible obstacles; Becoming a woman and turning into a werewolf.

No one wants to believe theyre turning into a werewolf and Ginger is in a state of denial.  Luckily Brigitte has her suspicions about Ginger and does her best to help thwart the changes that the approaching full moon is causing.  While shes trying her best to delay the inevitable, unfortunately a cure seems very unlikely. Brigitte confides in the towns local drug dealer Sam (Kris Lemche) in hopes that he can assist in discovering a cure.  Can the two can the two find a solution before its too late?  Is Ginger a lost hope?  What does old janitor blood actually taste like?

Ginger Snaps is a very smart horror flick that fuses the werewolf myth with a coming of age story. Weve all dealt with those awkward teen years so its very easy to relate to Ginger and Brigitte as they deal with the transition into adulthood/lycanthropy. The direction and editing are solid, the score is extremely haunting, and best of all the actors actually look like highschoolers! We need more werewolf flicks like this.

Ginger Snaps was always a favorite of mine and to be frank the past US DVD was pretty bad.  Im extremely happy to report that Scream Factory did a wonderful job with this release.  The movie retains a very filmic look with a nice layer of grain that gives way to a great amount of detail.  The soundscape is a very even, I really love Michael Shields score and it sounds great on the ol 5.1 set up.  This is a very solid release from the fan-friendly company.

This release presents the film with a number of supplements, some were created specifically for this release while a handful (mainly the SD features) were pulled from the Canadian release.

Audio Commentary with Director John Fawcett

Audio Commentary with Writer Karen Walton

Ginger Snaps: Blood, Teeth and Fur (01:06:34 HD) - An excellent documentary about the production of the film.  Interviews with the director, editor, writer, and a few more crew members are presented in the hour long feature.

Growing Pains: Puberty in Horror Films (27:09 HD) - Kristy Jett hosts a nice little Q & A with three other famed female horror journalists.  The topic?  Just as the title says, "puberty in horror films."

Deleted Scenes (25:07 SD) - A number of different deleted scenes presented in one long featurette.  Most of the scenes dont offer much however there is one pretty entertaining clip involving the sisters and a bewildered faculty member.

Theatrical Trailers (3:45 HD)

Archival footage (some from past releases.)

Featurette (4:51 SD)

Cast Auditions and Rehearsals (17:45 SD)

Creation of the Beast (4:59)

Being John Fawcett (1:57 SD)

Great film, great transfer, great extras; A disc thats a force to be reckoned with.  This is the best treatment Ginger Snaps has received thus far and a prime example of why we are constantly throwing money at Shout Factory.  Keep up the good work!
